Green & White Gala FAQs
What is the Green & White Gala?
The Green & White Gala, hosted by Parent Connection (PX), is Woodlawn’s annual evening of celebration where we, as parents, gather with the extended Woodlawn community to raise funds to support our school. If this is your first time attending the Green & White Gala, we’d love you to join us for live entertainment, a seated dinner and open bar. The evening will feature a live and silent auction, 50/50 raffle and wine pull.
As an independent school and a non-profit organization, Woodlawn School relies on philanthropic support to provide an exceptional and innovative learning environment. Tuition covers 82% of the school’s annual budget and the ‘Blazers Fund, Woodlawn’s annual giving campaign, makes up the difference with donations from parents and the greater Woodlawn community.
The Gala is PX’s major fundraising event. All gala proceeds go to the ‘Blazers Fund to help reach the 2019/20 goal of $200,000. This support enables Woodlawn to invest in innovative teaching that is the hallmark of project-based learning; improve the technology infrastructure of our campus; enhance student safety, health, and wellness; and provide professional development opportunities to support our faculty.

What is a silent auction?
Silent auction items will be on display at the gala and range from fabulous experiences and entertainment baskets, services and novelties, to summer camps, birthday parties, and incredible opportunities for the kids. There will be something for everyone!
Bids are placed in increasing increments. You should return to your items several times throughout the evening, placing additional bids if necessary, to ensure that you’re the highest bidder when the auction closes. Auction items will be grouped in categories and there will be staggered closings throughout the evening.
Our team of amazing parent volunteers is currently working hard to secure an incredible array of auction items for this year’s gala. We can’t wait to share the highlights on the online catalogue as we get closer to the event. The online catalogue will give you an exclusive preview of the silent auction items, and we encourage you to plan your bids in advance to ensure you walk away with some incredible items!
What is a live auction and what are class projects?
Class projects are unique pieces of art created and donated by our students at each grade level. Class projects will be up for bid during the live auction along with other unique, higher-priced items.
For months prior to the gala, Woodlawn students have been working with our wonderful art teachers, Ms. Lysne and Ms. Luis, to create these unique grade-level art projects. These projects are thoughtfully designed to reflect and integrate each grade’s curriculum. Class projects are heirlooms that beautifully represent the Woodlawn approach to education, integration, creativity, and expression. You won’t want to miss an opportunity to bid on these one-of-a-kind items!
What is a 50/50 raffle?
Individual raffle tickets will be on sale for $50/ticket or three (3) for $100 when you purchase your gala tickets online. [TO BE CONFIRMED WITH PATTY] Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase in car line the week leading up to the gala.
The winning ticket will be drawn during dinner on the night of the event. Here’s how it works:
- The first ticket pulled will win $100.
- Three additional tickets will be pulled and those ticket holders will come to the stage. If one of the winners is not present, they will be brought in over the phone to participate virtually.
- A live auction for a "Final Four Ticket" will begin for a guaranteed one-in-four chance to win the jackpot! Here's where it gets fun!
- The four finalists decide to split the jackpot or draw one more ticket. The person holding the drawn ticket is out, and we move on to the top three.
- The remaining three "make a deal" amongst themselves or decide to draw another ticket. If they draw, we reach the top two.
- The top two make a deal or go for it all!
- The runner-up wins $500 and the winner takes home - cash money! - half of all the money raised in ticket sales (excluding the live auction price of the Final Four ticket).
