'Blazers Fund Overview

Mission Made Possible,
Thanks to you!

Annual giving + Gala = 'Blazers Fund

The ‘Blazers Fund is made up of two pieces: the annual "Thanks for the Giving" campaign held during the month of November and our largest fundraiser, the Green & White Gala. Together these monies are pooled to form the 'Blazers Fund. Together with the contributions of all of us, the ‘Blazers Fund empowers and enables us to make our mission possible.

'Blazers Fund Breakdown

Understanding the 'Blazers Fund

Woodlawn's history of annual giving began back in 2002, our inaugural year. We were small then — just seven students to start and ending with 17 in June of 2003. That year and every year that followed, we relied on our community — current parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends — to help us live our school's mission.

Your tax-deductible gifts touch all aspects of Woodlawn, from financial aid to professional development, arts to technology, academic programming, and athletics by providing direct funding for educational initiatives that tuition alone does not cover. Monies from the ‘Blazers Fund are discretionary and can be applied where the school needs them most to support our interdisciplinary project-based learning curriculum where students are engaged both inside and outside of the classroom.

Our mission

To produce independent lifelong learners who are responsible, contributing members of a diverse global society.

Thanks for the Giving

In November we launched "Thanks for the Giving" — a month-long giving campaign aimed at jump-starting our annual fund. In just one month we reached our goal of $140,000! We had 100% participation from our faculty, staff, and board, and 72% of our parent body made donations.

Green & White Gala

In March, the third annual Green & White Gala took us to the Woodlawn Kentucky Derby! From combined proceeds of ticket sales, donations, Fund-a-Need, and items bid on, we raised $67,300. Special thanks to our corporate sponsors this year and especially to our co-chairs, Heather Rheinbolt and Leena Patel, and our many volunteers who spent countless hours organizing this event.

How your donations help every student

Your tuition check goes a long way at Woodlawn — helping to pay teacher salaries and benefits, providing support for financial aid for families who need it, and making our unqiue learning environments inside (and out) of the classroom possible. However, tuition doesn't cover everything. At Woodlawn, like most other private schools in the nation, annual giving beyond the tuition payment helps pay for crucial expenses that impact our students and faculty during the year. This year's "Fund-A-Need" giving campaign was launched at the Green & White Gala. Met with huge success, we instantly reached our $20,000 goal which allowed us to procure many items for the classroom and beyond. Here's a sampling:

14 iPads for Lower School Students.

One Apple TV for Lower School.

One Outdoor Student Leadership Shed for all divisions.

Two document cameras for Middle School.

Yearbook computer and hard drive.

Chemistry and physics equipment for the lab.

Five projectors and projector carts for all divisions.

Musical theater supplies including violins and play materials.

Whiteboard tables for Middle School.

Bridges Math Curriculum (training and materials).

A message from the Development Office

Many thanks to our Woodlawn family for once again supporting the school through the ‘Blazers Fund - by your cash donations and by your participation in the silent and live auctions at our annual Green and White Gala. This support is an essential part of ensuring that our students have the best possible educational experience, and that we continue to fulfill our mission as an independent school.

This past year, we incorporated a new element into our Gala - the Fund-a-Need for classroom wishlists. The generosity of the Gala attendees was evident as we surpassed the $20,000 goal for funding these wishlists within just a few minutes. It’s amazing to be part of a community that is so dedicated to the success of our students and faculty.

Another testament to this dedicated support is the increased participation that we observed in the ‘Blazers Fund - from 100% faculty/staff participation to huge increases in alumni and grandparent/friends participation. We are already working on building on this momentum in the 2018-19 school year, and I look forward to joining with you to making this year’s ‘Blazers Fund even more successful.
